Messages of Hope Podcast

‘Colin was a friend of mine. He drank too much. And underneath it all was a raging thirst. A thirst for love, for forgiveness, for approval.’

Are you thirsty? Are you thirsting for love, forgiveness and approval? Trying to quench those thirsts can be difficult but there is a way. Listen as Noel Due shares stories that offer hope to quench those thirsts.

A summary of the key points from this episode:
  • We all experience a deep spiritual thirst – Beyond physical thirst, humans hunger for love, forgiveness, meaning, and worth, just like Colin and the woman at the well.
  • We often try to satisfy our thirst in the wrong places – Whether through addiction, relationships, achievement, or distraction, the “wells” we turn to end up dry.
  • Addiction reveals a deeper inner emptiness – Colin’s alcoholism wasn’t just physical; it came from a raging inner thirst for acceptance and healing that alcohol could never satisfy.
  • Jesus offers “living water” that truly satisfies – Like the Samaritan woman, Jesus invites us to drink from his life, giving water that quenches the deepest thirst of the soul.
  • Jesus fully understands our thirst – He experienced extreme physical thirst on the cross, but even more devastating was the spiritual thirst of being cut off from God.
  • The cross is where Jesus enters our wasteland – He stepped into the “dust bowl” of our brokenness, sitting in our ashes and carrying our spiritual dehydration.
